General awards

The award recognizes a distinguished record of substantial contributions by individuals or organizations that have reduced CV risk and comorbidities and/or increased prevention and control of blood pressure. Contributions worthy of this prestigious award are expected to be broad in scope (i.e., national), enduring over time, and to have had a substantive impact. The award consists of a plaque from Hypertension Canada and is given annually to one individual or organization if a suitable candidate is nominated. If no suitable candidate is nominated, the award may be withheld in any given year.

The award recognizes research in hypertension or blood pressure by an individual. A nominee must have made or is currently making significant contributions to the advancement and extension of knowledge in basic, clinical, health services or population-based research specifically relating to hypertension or blood pressure.

The award recognizes excellence in the field of hypertension or blood pressure research by a new investigator, who has not exceeded a time period of 12 years from the first appointment as an independent investigator. A nominee must have made significant contributions to the advancement and extension of knowledge in basic, clinical, health services or population-based research specifically relating to hypertension or blood pressure.

The annual award recognizes a member that develops or leads implementation of innovative approaches in knowledge translation and education related to hypertension and/or primary prevention. Examples of such work could include the development of an innovative webinar, a novel resource, a new means of dissemination, or advances in the development of the guidelines process.

The Certificate of Excellence is presented to these worthy individuals or organizations in recognition of their outstanding efforts and contributions in Canada through increased public awareness, prevention or control of hypertension.

This distinguished category includes a free Hypertension Canada membership for life.
