Strategic Plan

2006 – 2009
Critical Success Factors

1. Move towards a single point of entry for all hypertension audiences in Canada. Explore the creation of a single structure for the promotion and funding of the common components of the mandate of all three organizations. The objective will be to increase the efficiency of all three organizations.

2. Ensure a better integration of healthcare providers in the scientific program and broaden the scope of the CHS to include issues relevant to patients, mainly control and compliance in collaboration with CHEP and BP Canada.

3. Cultivate relationships and partnerships with Industry.

4. Continue to support and promote clinical and basic research and continue to support the development of young basic and clinical scientists in the field of hypertension research.

Strategies

1. Present the concept of approaching industry with a unified voice to individuals involved in all three organizations

2. Create a Council comprised of one representative from each organization with a neutral chairperson that will manage a centralized funding structure

3. Create a Project Manager position and a joint secretariat that will ensure that the role and mandate of each organization is respected:

  • Outcomes and research components for the CHS
  • Development and dissemination of guidelines for CHEP
  • Knowledge translation and education for health care professionals and patients for BPC

4. Keep past presidents in the loop for added support.
5. Ensure that provincial societies (QSS and OHS) are also on board.

1. Use the annual meeting as a platform to fully address the mission (research and education) of the Society and as a partnership event with CHEP and BP Canada.

  1. Continue to propose a balanced research program including both basic and clinical research
  2. Attract healthcare professionals by offering a session devoted to hypertension management (CHEP guidelines dissemination)
  3. Include topics related to patient care, such as compliance, home BP measurement and other relevant issues

2. Broaden the “expertise” of the program committee by including individuals from different sectors of the health care system (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, etc…)
