This report is the culmination of over two years of work by the Sodium Working Group, which was established by the former Minister of Health in late 2007 to develop a population health strategy for reducing sodium intake among Canadians. The recommendations provided in this report are directed at all levels of government, non-governmental organizations, consumers, industry and other relevant stakeholders.

TRAIN THE TRAINER SESSION

Hypertension Management – CHEP 2010 Recommendations and the latest Hypertension Canada educational resources

It is anticipated that after the session participants will be able to apply the 2010 Canadian Hypertension Education Program (CHEP) guidelines in their practice and use the Hypertension Canada resources to educate their colleagues and when counseling patients diagnosed with hypertension. A presentation of the latest CHEP Recommendations and Hypertension Canada resources will be followed by a discussion of different case studies with participants and experts.
This course is accredited for 5 CME credits.

The Public Health Agency of Canada’s 2009 Survery on Living with Chronic Disease in Canada provides new information on how well Canadians with hypertension are following the CHEP guidelines. This recent survey, conducted by Statistics Canada, interviewed a nationally-respresentative sample of 6,142 people with self-reported high blood pressure diagnosed by a health professional.
