TASK FORCES
Evidence-Based Recommendations Task Force (RTF)
The RTF has a unique process that is highly structured and systematic to reduce bias and that critically reviews evidence and updates clinical practice recommendations annually. Fifteen subgroups have been assigned topics important to the detection, treatment and control of hypertension. Systematic literature searches are performed by a librarian and each subgroup develops draft recommendations using an evidence-based grading scheme.

Central Review Committee (CRC)
This committee consists of 4-6 experts in evidence-based medicine and clinical epidemiology who do not have conflicts of interest. The CRC reviews the recommendations and evidence to ensure a consistent approach to the recommendations development and suggests revisions to the sub-groups. The evidence and draft recommendations are presented by the CRC and further revised at an annual meeting of the Recommendations Task Force.

The ITF is responsible for production of educational materials and the creation of a dissemination strategy. The ITF has a multidisciplinary membership including pharmacists, family doctors, nurses, medical specialists, a sociologist and an exercise physiologist. Membership is purposefully selected to include key regional and national opinion leaders. This Task Force tailors recommendations messaging for specific health care disciplines.

Outcomes Research Task Force (ORTF)
The ORTF was developed to assess the treatment and control of hypertension in Canada to evaluate the effectiveness of CHEP. Five sub-groups examine:
- Hypertension Outcome and Surveillance Team (HOST) – administrative databases to track hypertension diagnosis, hypertension treatment, and complications of hypertension
- The hospitalization and mortality for acute stroke, acute myocardial infarction, and heart failure
- National health surveys to determine awareness of hypertension and treatment of hypertension
